TECHNICAL PROGRAM CHAIRS' MESSAGE

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the tenth National Conference on Communications, NCC 2004. It is very appropriate that it is being held in Bangalore, a premier and fast growing IT hub of India. We are certain you will find the technical program to be intellectually invigorating and of excellent quality.

This year's conference attracted 209 submissions out of which 90 were accepted as regular papers and 31 as poster papers. There were 81 submissions from IITs/IISc and 128 from non-IITs/IISc of which 68 and 53, respectively, were accepted. The conference technical program includes papers on diverse areas as modulation and coding theory, diversity techniques, OFDM, CDMA, ad-hoc and sensor networks, TCP/IP, wireless networks and protocols, multimedia, encryption, audio/speech processing, image/video processing, and optical communication.

The conference is preceded by a day of six intensive half-day tutorials, offered by well known experts. The two plenary talks by leaders of their profession in academia and industry respectively, are on topics that are central to the theme of the conference.

We wish to thank the plenary and tutorial speakers as well as the authors for their help in making this an exciting, useful and up-to-date conference. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the faculty of IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee, IISc Bangalore, and experts from industries and other organizations, for their help in conducting the technical review of the submitted papers.

Special thanks go to the many helpers and volunteers on the conference organizing, steering and local coordination committees for ensuring that the conference proceedings and CD were made on time and for efficiently making arrangements for the smooth conduct of the conference. Thanks are due in particular to A. Chockalingam and also to S.V.Gopalaiah, A. Srinivasa Reddy, Karthik Rajan, Shuba Bhat and Divya Bhaskar.

The conference committee is delighted to welcome you to this conference as well as to the city of Bangalore.
